Yes, in the sense of having compatible moral values everyone should be the same, indeed MUST be the same for the group to be "diverse" in the sense of tolerating and respecting legitimate differencehttps://twitter.com/shadihamid/status/1277965266530394115 …

to take one of the most obvious examples, hadid's ideal community emphatically believes "you must be polite at cocktail parties" and has almost no ideological diversity on that particular matter their diversity only applies to the things that do not matter to their lives

The thing that I think he's grasping at, and missing, is that it IS valuable to have people around you who have different perspectives. It's too easy to generalize your own experience. But *perspective* isn't ideology.

The issue with this is how you define when “ideology directly threatens my life”. Those on the Left have been working to significantly expand what falls under that umbrella in the United States- to the point that almost any policy differences become ideological.
@shadihamid -
i agree with you that it is possible to overstate the threat of a particular ideology. do you agree that it is possible to claim that a threat is overstated, even if it is not?

It's not as if we don't allow for diversity in opinion in a huge range of topics, like favourite TV shows, music or video games. Just the little sticking point that all humans should be judged on their actions not their innate characteristics.pic.twitter.com/3pOlthegj1
