I'm still mad about people saying TLJ spits on the old canon as though everything Old Luke said weren't a reaction not only to his own backstory but to his father's TLJ was the only sequel trilogy movie to take the prequels seriouslyhttps://twitter.com/rianjohnson/status/1277475774044368896 …

Turned out to be correct, more or less, just took 40-odd years to happen. Except, of course, the light side and dark side, the Jedi and the Sith, are more-or-less 2 sides of the same coin, one can't exist without the other.

I think there's an interesting story in disentangling the Jedi from the Light side from ethical behavior, and the Sith from the Dark side from evil.

The Chosen One being Anakin was an assumption, and always kinda nebulous in justification. Obi Wan's only appearance in Rebels makes it pretty clear that by that point he beleived Luke to be the chosen one. Obi Wan't biggest failure might be in never accepting there is none.
-
I’ve never seen THAT as the wrong assumption. Instead, the two wrong assumptions are that (a) the Chosen One will be good and that (b) bringing “balance” to the Force will be a good thing. Like, Anakin killed so many Jedi that the Jedi v Sith numbers were basically in balance.

I am more interested in the idea that the prophecy was real. The Jedi arrogantly thought it would tip the scales in their favor. I thought the sequel trilogy was going there with Rey being a purveyor of neither Light nor Dark, but true balance. It didn't happen though.

The thing that baffled me about complaints that Luke "gave up" is that everyone remembers Yoda's Do or Do Not speech, but not that he gave it because Luke literally gave up. Luke's awesome because while he stumbles he ALWAYS comes through in the end.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3-CpzZJl8w& …

Did anyone really restore ‘balance’ to the Force? What did that prophecy even mean?
