Yep, she was voiced by a cis woman, which is I guess plausible deniability (and, you know, that's who the song's written for). It's kind of like those rock gardens that don't actually have a tree but are laid out in such a fashion as to suggest one is right in front of you

The fact that the lower half of her body is a mass of tentacles is, well, evocative

It's like how there was a review of the film version of The Two Towers saying Sam's battle with Shelob is the victory of male homoerotic loyalty (bros before hos), with Sting as the sacred phallus piercing the sticky webs of feminine sexuality

And this sounds like a ridiculous grad school kind of reach Until you go back and watch that scene in the movie and realize just how much they made Shelob's face look like a giant vagina

Well, showing boobs would've caused an outcry among the conservative side of LotR fandom and limited their audience due to ratings The game Shadow of War did make the... odd decision to give Shelob an attractive human form thoughpic.twitter.com/D3lWKCfsQM

No lie, prior to the movies coming out, I heard a lot of people talking about how Shelob used to be an attractive woman but got turned into a spider demon thing for her hubris. Which doesn't seem to have any basis in the lore, but maybe that old rumour is why she has that form?

Or maybe they just wanted to give straight dudes a hot woman to look at while they played video games, I dunno. I mean, it IS only straight dudes who play video games, after all. -_-

They said they wanted to explore the concept of Evil Galadriel as she would've become had she taken the Ring and thought this was a convenient place in canon to do it
