Yeah. The character was literally dressing as a woman so that he could get a job as a nanny and be close to his kids. It was meant to be funny, and for kid-me it was, but now it comes way too close to all the BS about trans people being deceptive and dangerous.

Ana is trans and I'm not, so his opinion on this should carry more weight than mine. I didn't even really see WIlliam's character as trans - he was (in my memory) literally a man in a dress playing a trick. I suspect we only liked that movie for his performance.

Ditto. The character may have been in drag but wasn't trans. Though it is worth considering that if there are a lot of things that fall into negative stereotypes about trans people, does the character still count towards trans representation?

I've been trying to think about the first trans character I saw on TV or movies that was actually trans, not just a character in drag, and all the only one I can think of is Unique, from Glee. Which is disappointing as hell, tbh. The world needs more positive trans characters.

I can't think of many at all, even currently. Nomi from Sense8. Sofia from OiTNB (who was played by a trans actress). To be fair, I don't watch much TV overall.

Ladykiller in a Bind is specifically and consciously an attempt to reverse this trope

It's a game (and a highly controversial one)https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ladykiller_in_a_Bind …
