I think the Fireflies have a better case for being a de facto sovereign nation than Joel But then, nobody at this point has actually signed the Geneva Conventions I guess

But I suppose my point in bringing up my dad is like, the rules in question are more than just the Geneva Conventions, they at least WERE the sort of things taught as the Actual Right Thing to likely real combatants That other combatants are legitimate targets

Contrarily, if some scientists in a hospital are desperately trying to cure the plague that killed the planet, and some nihilistic asshole decides the planet should die instead, why should he and his friends get any legal protection in their quest to murder all of humanity
