Right. People characterized that as a taunt, but while they're transphobic, they have no idea what name he wants to be called.

And yeah, Abby doesn't realize he's trans, thinks he's lying when he obliquely alludes to why they're after him because she hasn't considered he's not a cis boy, and eventually finds out by asking his sister. That's about 2/3rds of that storyline through before she knows

yeah there's a hard-line position that shows up in the discourse where it's bad representation automatically if the author even picked a deadname and I think that's what's at work here

Which is FUCKED since when I did write my own fiction I never didn't pick a deadname And again, the Wachowskis have their issues but you can't say their trans experience isn't real, and they also do this It's so ridiculous
