Like the philosophy is that making and playing games is just a way of people talking to each other so making a game should be as easy as playing one and it's this whole ongoing collaborative process, every game is just having "something to say" Which is great

It entirely is. I don't like it any more, but there's a difference between "I don't like it" and "it's objectively bad". And frankly, being hostile to d&d probably creates a barrier to people who aren't entirely happy with d&d to step outside of it and explore alternatives

Even as a small child, when I was introduced to the idea of tabletop RPGs, I was thrilled, because FINALLY instead of arguing about whether the other kids you were playing pretend with hit you or you dodged, you could just roll a die and settle it.
