Just saw a visible indie game dev griping about how AAA games shouldn't get praise for stuff indie games have done already 1) indie game devs have been some of the worst harassers in my life 2) AAA games are a fundamentally different thing from someone's Twine game

I could also be a real cynical asshole and say one reason for their fury is that IF AAA publishers start being more diverse in their casts, it *threatens indie publishers' audiences*
-
Yup. They want market capture.

(Like unlike the famous quote about how "Hardly anyone bought the Velvet Underground's albums but everyone who did started a band", I feel like the backlash is because the current indie game scene is pretty damn sure the AAA scene just completely ignores them)

Yeah I mean a lot of these folks don't even sell their games Which is fine, respect, but like a indie-with-a-budget game on up (I'm talking Oxenfree, FTL, NitW) is just a fundamentally different thing than Twine or Bitsy or some abstract shapes 3D thing

It's not even really like comparing Dogme 95 to Marvel movies, it's like comparing Infinite Jest to Marvel movies, or any movies

There is also a large trend for games media etc to just outright steal from lesser titles and continue on as though they don't exist - which compounds the problems for indie developers of any sort. (And is in no way unique to games, but prevalent and rarely discussed in games)
-
It's not exclusive to indies by any means, but indies get the worst of it because they have the lowest chance of anyone ever acknowledging them even in a footnote.
