This is really weird, like he's saying parenting has no material advantages *at all*, and really he's saying it has no spiritual advantages either, even though he just denied thathttps://twitter.com/marinakukso/status/1276633458308026369 …

It's like when a bunch of monks set up a monastery up in the mountains to sleep on straw mats and live by themselves for 20 years and do as little as possible but pray

And they tell you this brings them closer to God than you, that there's incomprehensible joy you'll never understand as a dumb heathen working stiff with your dreary material life surrounded by material crap Which is fair, I suppose Then they hit you up for a *donation*

You just said your life was so much fucking better than mine, that my life was emptiness and ashes, and that the experience of your life can never be transferred to mine So why in the name of God should *I* be paying *you*? Aren't *I* the disadvantaged one?

I'm the one with a lonely empty life who's going to die in a medical facility after everyone I grew up with who understood me has already passed and a long twilight of knowing the world has left me behind and I've left no visible mark on it Why don't *you* give *me* money

(I don't seriously mean the above but I do seriously think if you really, seriously cared about these issues you'd think harder about whether single adults with no blood family ties are "privileged", especially the poor and struggling ones you never meet at your tech company)

If I ever had an "incomparable spiritual experience" it was from sleep deprivation. I mean - MY CHILDREN ARE MY EVERYTHING! or something like that. I love you kids.

As far as this topic - It is doing a lot of work that in many ways benefits others - but we took this on and it is not selfless. Childless folks don't need to kiss our ass, but we do need a society that makes parenting possible without going fucking crazy.
