Everybody's loyalty is to the person who signs their checks, that's just a basic rule of life It's not to say HR employees are evil but their job isn't to look out for your interests any more than the salesperson's job is to honestly tell you if the outfit looks good on youhttps://twitter.com/sebastianxade/status/1276161207318298627 …

Yeah - at the same time, the reason they're involved is usually because you have some leverage against the company.

HR's job is to play defense for the company They exist because there are employment laws, and that's the offense you have at your back when you get in a fight with your employer Their job is to negotiate a beneficial compromise but that's not the same as being *on your side*

They quite plainly would not exist if those laws didn't exist -- many younguns are surprised to find out they *did not exist* until those laws were passed -- and those laws exist because they were fought for, quite bloodily, by organized labor

I mean, to stretch out my analogy up above, absolutely it's true that salespeople want to "help you" because you have money and they need your money in order to keep their job

To a limited degree, that does mean they're "on your side", but you had better be really conscious of where those limits are if you don't want to get fucked
