They quite plainly would not exist if those laws didn't exist -- many younguns are surprised to find out they *did not exist* until those laws were passed -- and those laws exist because they were fought for, quite bloodily, by organized labor

I mean, to stretch out my analogy up above, absolutely it's true that salespeople want to "help you" because you have money and they need your money in order to keep their job

Yeah, definitely. But they're looking to make a deal with you, so it's a moment where you can work with it.

And yeah - the salesperson isn't there to make you happy, but they'll also spend a lot of time trying to figure out what that is so they get paid.
