I've done it. Everyone in a call center has done it.

I think I only did it a handful of times, (partly because we had a company policy of use first names, partly cause I was pretty careful) but I know I was misgendered by people I was talking to a handful of times.

Oh yeah, assumptions made off voices go absolutely wild in all kinds of directions. Not to mention the awkward calls where someone would want to explain to me us that they "weren't sure if it was a man or a woman" they spoke to last time. Like that's what matters.

As a sixteen year old girl I was mistaken for my dad. I still can’t tell the difference between my own voice and my brother’s in a recording.

They probably didn't want to re-record voice lines where the PC genders themself. Which sucks. Probably also means they only have two pronoun options. Which sucks.

Probably also means NPCs won't have much to say about your character's body. Which I'm guessing might come off a bit incongruous at times but maybe doesn't suck?

I’ve been “ma’amed” a whole *bunch* of times over the phone, even after giving my name. Don’t think it’s ever happened in person, at least not since I was old enough to start remembering things.
