I'm not going to lie, it perpetually pisses me off that all the kids in AP courses in high school got to have actual fun in class with teachers who nominally gave a shit and peers they could relate to, just as, like, a nice little reward for not having debilitating ADHD

It was deeply embarrassing for the school that the class valedictorian was, socially speaking, friends with the "problem kids" and they did everything they could to elevate the nice normal girl who was 2nd-place behind me in GPA instead

To be clear, my friends were terrible and yet in this context I don't regret this life choice

I was the kid with 2.1 gpa hanging out with the smart girls. But our smart kid group was also all band geeks together and consisted of a lot of the poc of our very white suburban school. Though, when they found out my gpa i am pretty sure one of them started panicking for me.
