That's how you persuade a Republican that Trump is bad--explain that he's a bad way to make the country great. Do you know how persuasion works? You understand what the person you're trying to persuade wants and then show them how to get it.

What I understand about persuasion is that it mostly doesn't work

For instance, you are trying to use this technique on me right now and miserably failing, because we can all tell that you are very clumsily trying to imitate someone who shares my values without actually understanding what they are

I'm not trying to persuade you, I'm trying to persuade others who are reading the thread. People most likely not participating in the conversation because they're on the fence

Yeah, that's also the only reason I have these conversations, and the way to do that is to appeal to the values I actually share with them, by using someone like you as a negative example to hold in contempt and disgust

Scott wrote a post reviewing the literature on this (unfortunately can't share it with you) and came to the opposite conclusion. You may disagree with his methods, but he is operating in good faith

My dude, writing a post reviewing the literature is not somehow proof of good faith, it is something very easy to do in bad faith, and is in fact mostly done in bad faith

So instead of looking at what the science says, we figure things out on the basis of who our friends are "dunking" on Twitter. Is that right?
