My suspicion is that the months and months Scott spent reassuring "Gray Tribe" and "Red Tribe" people in "Blue Tribe Enemy Territory" that they weren't terrible people and their resentments and insecurities were valid and all that shit did far far more than that one article

Yeah - which is what so many faux debates are anyway: a way to make preaching to the choir exciting and interesting by having a foil to humiliate and pile on.

Nobody's actually listening to the other side of the debate, they're just looking for clever put-downs, or for opportunities to mock them in the future. That's why the genre is usually on youtube as "So-and-so DESTROYS X"
