He’s not mixing any of those things

Your hypothetical: "If a woman wants to have babies with the smartest and most attractive man she can find..." I'm trying to extract the reason why. Some of the reasons seem to me like they'd conceivably be creepy; others, not. That's what I'm trying to unmix.

"Eugenics" is a CONSCIOUS BELIEF SYSTEM It's not a general description of things that happen in the world, and by diluting it down like that you're engaging in Scott's favorite fallacy, the motte-and-bailey fallacy

Moreover, the statement that "everyone engages in eugenics *whether or not they know it*" is itself an expression of the eugenicist belief system and therefore not falsifiable except by falsifying eugenics itself

It's like a Christian saying "Even the unbelievers in their perversity give glory to God" It's vacuous nonsense

If I actually took your assertion seriously then *everything* is eugenics and "dysgenics" does not exist The human brain is an evolved, deterministic system like everything else in the world and all of it is just evolution working itself out, including me saying I'm against it

lol no I’ve never claimed that “everything” is eugenics. Dysgenics exist as well. Contraception is basically dysgenics. And that second thing looks like a gibberish mix of genetic determinism with agency bypassing and.....just very unclear and odd

I think the argument that contraception is dysgenic is that incompetent people will misuse contraception and end up pregnant while responsible people will use it properly and not get pregnant.

damn, *at least* two gigantic assumptions then: - being able to use BC correctly is heritable - unwanted pregnancies increase your reproductive success probably more but I am also grading labs so I'm distracted

They think EVERYTHING is heritable, ESPECIALLY the stuff that's least clearly heritable -- the stuff they care about, the "general factor of intelligence" (generally being good at stuff, which can be measured with an IQ test) It's such transparent Revenge of the Nerds garbage

Is behavioral genetics pseudoscience as well?

Everything you like is pseudoscience Even if it weren't, it would become so after passing through your mind
