The infantilization of mental health patients and this absurd idea that because someone is a practicing clinician they deserve an automatic presumption of good faith is the worst damn thing about the system

This idea that you can't fire your therapist because, after all, you're the crazy one and you don't know what's good for you so if you really wanted to get better you'd shut up and take it

I fired my therapist. People fire their therapists all the time. What are you even taking about?

But this is why I should be able to get information on my therapist. I shouldn't need to invest months and $$$ and mental damage into a therapist before realizing they're a misogynist/racist/homophobe/whatever and firing them.

Point of order: i think Siskind is a pyschiatrist rather than a therapist, but biases are still salient to how people are treated with medication.

Especially because Scott is, when it comes to nerdy science stuff, EXTREMELY biased toward biodeterminism and the idea that some people just have bad genes and their problems are intractable

Sure. Even something as simple as hearing, from different patients, "this med makes me feel like a zombie, can we do anything about it?" Who gets the benefit of his expertise, and who gets told to suck it up?

Or, "I have anxiety about x", where x is something cis het white men don't have to worry about, but other people may. How does that get diagnosed and treated?

Remember the thing where Jordan Peterson HIMSELF told the story about a woman coming to his practice telling him she'd been raped and he very quickly dismisses her story as implausible and then rapidly diagnoses her as totally out of touch with reality and incapable of reason

And HE HIMSELF describes being overwhelmed by this seething, burning feeling of utter contempt just looking at her HE TOLD THIS STORY IN DETAIL He confessed to this and meant it as an illustration of how hard crazy people are to deal with
