I want my model of the world to trend towards having nobody who threatens me or people I care about in it and I really don't give a shit about anything else As Karl Marx said, "The philosophers have described the world; the aim is to change it"

We will just have to agree to disagree about the compatibility of those two aims.

Look, I actually had this discussion AT THE TIME, with the mutual FB friend of me and Scott that led to this whole thing And in his very high-decoupling way he actually laid it out in very stark terms

"I just strongly believe in a divide between thoughts, speech and action If someone tells you 'I'm seriously doing research that might lead me to the conclusion I have to punch you, but I'm not convinced yet,' that's not a reason to punch them You can still have a discussion"

And I'm just like What the fuck No, that statement so clearly disproves your point If someone tells you "I'm thinking of punching you, I think that might be justified," THAT IS A THREAT You don't fucking wait to respond to a threat, you take immediate action

To use more of Scott and Eliezer's beloved Star Wars references, when Greedo stands there talking about carefully weighing the cost/benefit analysis of taking you to Jabba alive rather than shooting you now, you only keep him talking long enough to draw under the table

You don't fucking wait for him to decide You don't let him come to some kind of intellectual decision If him attacking you is *anywhere* in his "decision space" you cut that shit off by any method you have to hand, as fast and as hard as you can

I guess I just can't connect your points here about taking preemptive action against Nazis with the action being to strip Scott of either his blog or his job. Seems like we can keep punching Nazis AND let Scott do his thing, and the two aren't interfering with each other.

Scott is friendly with white nationalists, and to the extent that Scott has access to respectability and clout, he provides them access to it too

The point of "Punch Nazis" is *specifically* that "thinkers" like Curtis Yarvin, Mike Anissimov, Steve Sailer should not feel comfortable poking their heads up anywhere to speak Scott's blog was specifically to provide a "safe space" (a "cultivated garden") where they could

Even if you completely believe that Scott himself isn't a eugenicist at all and has no sympathy for white nationalism, he gives active aid and comfort to people who are completely unambiguously fash JFC he actually ran a fundraiser for nydwracu (Wesley Morganston)

He's significantly boosted Moldbug, too, while doing the "tee hee actually i think NRx is wrong and bad" thing all over his blog.
