Aster, internet archaeologist added,
I think my favorite part is the bit where he wants society to be both “more libertarian” and “more deferential to lawful authority.”
The way conservatives use these terms it's completely pointless to try to parse them, it's just noise To the extent it means anything it's a child's understanding of power -- "Defending property rights" isn't exercising power but just maintaining a status quo
Are we really using Scott's inability to be a perfect moderator of a subreddit to slander him as a Nazi apologist? Didn't we just have this debate about "Bernie Bros" misbehavin' etc. during the primary?
I never asked him to do jack shit, I have never contacted him of my own volition at all He redacted my name in this post, which I am happy to proudly signal-boost was about me:https://web.archive.org/web/20200202214359/https://slatestarcodex.com/2014/02/23/in-favor-of-niceness-community-and-civilization/ …
The reason I don't like this post is that I was sarcastically using Eliezer Yudkowsky's cringey terminology about "bad actors in information space" to describe myself ("mindkilled", "black robes", "Dark Arts", etc.) Today I'd just say "low-decoupling conflict theorist"
It was unpleasant to have random channer chuds share screenshots of this post mocking me as though the terminology was something I'd invented or was using sincerely But that's the only thing that really pissed me off about it
If you think I should be ashamed of the fact that I have no interest in "the humble collective search for truth" as opposed to punching Nazis, you are completely wrong It's something I wish more people knew about me
The main thing of note about Scott's redaction of my name is that he wrote this big self-pitying thing about how kind he'd been to me and he'd "thought better" of naming me and took my name down after a few days When that post was up with my real name for a full year
Which, again, I don't give a shit about except in that it shows Scott is a wildly unreliable narrator about his own life, and apparently edits his actual memories just as frequently and fluidly as he edits his posts and comments
Yeah, @GeorgeHemingto1 was just talking about a conversation he had with Scott where Scott was invisibly editing comments in realtime to make himself look less owned.
Also the idea that this is somehow an asymmetry between Scott and me is kind of silly isn't it I haven't "doxed" Scott in the six years I've known his real name, have I? I haven't even done it now
