All of the stuff they said about why wearing masks was maybe not a great idea is THE SAME as what they said about seatbelts and will age just as poorly

Which is fucking ridiculous because THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DO. Like, how do you KNOW there are no other cars around? "Well, because you're alert to your conditions." Sure, but what if someone comes up really fast? What if you missed a spot? Etc.

But....but you should use the signal even if nobody else is around.

"Who are you trying to signal? There's nobody behind you, this is an empty residential street" "If I have to think about it every time I signal then I'll forget about it someday when it matters"
-
"Arthur, if you're not consciously aware of the situation on the road and taking account of it at all times then that makes you a bad driver" "OKAY SO I'M A BAD DRIVER AT LEAST I'M A BAD DRIVER WHO ALWAYS SIGNALS"

...the fuck? I've been known to use turn signals in my own driveway
-
I've caught myself using turn signals unconsciously when following a sufficiently sharp curve [though I try to avoid it because it can be legitimately misleading to other drivers]

When I was learning to drive, an *actual driving instructor* told me that I don't have to signal changing lanes if the lane's just opened up, or when turning at an intersection when the lane only allows turning in that direction. I don't even think those are legitimate rules.

both my partners always signal even to turn into the driveway and also put on the handbrake every time they park and it made no sense to me until I realized it was part of their script for safe driving.
