Uh, folks, irrespective of how you think Naughty Dog handled the trans character (I haven't got there yet myself but am semi-spoiled) I guarantee you they embargoed it not bc they were afraid of outrage from trans ppl at a problematic depiction, but afraid of bros mad he exists

If you need any proof to back up this tweet just look at the reaction gamers had when they saw Abby and assumed that a buff woman must be actually trans

The simple fact that this would be a cis actor playing a trans character and that that would automatically launch a deserved backlash is why I never believed this, all the details of the story aside

I always wonder that when Hollywood casts cis actors to play trans characters, they virtually never cast a character of the person's actual gender, but instead, make a big show of how this cis man can play a trans woman. I wonder how reaction would go if it went the other way.

It's been done, like with that terrible trans hitwoman movie. I think the Crying Game actress was cis too

No, Dil in The Crying Game is played by a drag queen, Jaye Davidson (who had had no previous movie acting experience) He also played Ra in Stargate

Huh that surprises me just bc ppl saw The Crying Game as a "twist movie" for a long time which means said drag Queen had to pass really well and also not be known to the audience as a drag queen

He wasn't famous, the director saw him at a party in London or something

Ftr he never actually came out as trans or genderqueer or anything but he said he always preferred to present androgynously in daily life (long hair etc) and that the gay male community at the time wasn't particularly welcoming for this

Yeah he's one of those people who accidentally became famous who took his one big paycheck from it and then vanished, which I always admire
