The fandom reaction to instinctively defend people who are "difficult to work with" because we don't have to actually experience any of the difficulties and just enjoy the finished product means that we're all complicit in helping make creative industries an abusive nightmare

I guess gaming is truly a mature industry now that we have to reckon with the fact that our beloved game design rockstars are awful in exactly the same way as actual rockstars (Cf. that "We have groupies?" scene in The Social Network)

Yeah the callout thread says his bosses gave him second chance after second chance but eventually the public spectacle of "head writer Chris Avellone being drunk in public at a big industry event" was too much of a liability to ignore
