You can both empathize with being so exhausted you get upset and cry over nothing while also thinking that someone who cries and panics over an egg McMuffin taking too long should not be given a gun to work in a high-stress field.

Police don't have the highest risk of suicide of any profession (I believe that's doctors especially if you consider them as a whole, some lists separate out surgeons). I'm also suspicious of most of these lists because none mention veterans or the military.

Though this one says manual laborers as a whole have the highest rate and THAT I absolutely believe. Kate Manne's concept of "himpathy" is a subset of this kind of thing - empathy deployed selectively as a weapon to create boundaries between "real human beings" vs. the"others" who are never presumed to have the same kind of inner life or interests that deserve defending.
