Or Chinatown. That movie is incredibly chilling and I can't comprehend how someone could tell on themselves that dramatically

Were either of those as blatant as "the rich Los Angeles rapist is going to be publicly known to do rapes and get away with it because the institutions of LA have his back"?

Ha, it's still not as blatant as him making Death and the Maiden (although that film was based on an existing stage play he didn't write)

It's like if the wizard book lady had actually had a horrible TĒ R F villain in one of her books, and the heroes were disgusted by her, but she won, and you realized in retrospect that that was the whole point

Or, as in the case of me watching Chinatown, I went in knowing about Polanski and the plot was shocking to me because I kept thinking "well it can't be THAT, that would be telling on himself" and then, welp

Death and the Maiden is worse, it literally ends with the bad guy giving a full confession and accounting of his motives

Death and the Maiden takes place in an analogue of Chile after the fall of the Pinochet regime, in the home of a married couple who were previously dissidents - the husband had escaped into exile, the wife had spent years as a prisoner

The plot kicks off with their neighbor seeking shelter from a storm, and the wife slowly coming to believe that he's the doctor who raped and tortured her while she was in prison, leading to her kidnapping him in order to try to force him into a confession

And our viewpoint character is the husband, who's stuck trying to figure out if this is all true or if she's crazy and delusional
