I'm currently bingeing Voyager & am actually pretty depressed by the sexism levels. Ok, it was a big step forward from TOS, but it could've done *a lot* better.

Agreed but by numerous standards sexism and racism were very progressive within the ST universe as opposed to many other mediums at the time. I still despise those elements in terms of modern media (and my morals) but can appreciate that ST was still ahead of its time.

I would not call this episode "ahead of its time" even for 1969 Nichelle Nichols had had a huge fight with Gene Roddenberry over him straight up vetoing a script someone else wrote where she takes the helm of the Enterprise because he was against it
