So, e.g., the line that alternative medicine practitioners love, "The terrain makes the disease, not the germ" The motte is this very narrow definition of what that means -- "A germ's presence by itself can't define the progression of a disease, your overall health matters"
Everyone agrees with that, it's obviously true, but also no one cares because it doesn't have any obvious implications other than that yes, people should stay healthy beyond just killing germs
I understand the metaphor now, but the pedant in me requires that I point out that you've got the definition of motte and bailey all wrong.
