The first three books largely work, some uncomfortable warts (goblins, house elves, etc.) aside. The fourth starts to show signs of problems. Fifth and onwards are without value.

It’s been a while since I’ve read HP, but I remember 5-7 being hard for me to get through. HP 5-7 feels like it’s trying too hard to be dark & YA without fully committing to being dark & YA and it personally pulls me out of the story and always has.
