Hot take: Harry Potter isn't as blatant as future isekai, like it straddles the line between "isekai" and more general "Chosen One narratives" But it's the world's most popular isekai https://twitter.com/AnaMardoll/status/1272191907414913024 …

Although I do think that the "advantages" that the main character brings to the new setting only need to be focused on for a few episodes; an isekai plot can just be an excuse to get the ball rolling. Eventually Fry is basically just a normal dude; his backstory doesn't matter.

Until it goes full circle and is full isekai tropes again with the Brainspawn arc where Fry is the only being who can save the universe because he's his own grandfather

So less Fresh Prince and more Rock n' Roll High School Forever?

John Carter of Mars was a little earlier than Buck Rogers I think
-
Quite a bit. The lineage is John Carter (1912,) Buck Rogers (1928,) and Flash Gordon (1934.) The British Dan Dare (1950) is compared with Buck Rogers, though there the direct inspiration was Biggles, British dogfight ace from a series of World Wars-set pup adventures.
