I'm at the Ned Ludd point where I'm viscerally disgusted by people who share 20-years-younger-me's wide-eyed optimism about "the digital revolution" and all that shit How can you not see that the people most empowered by the "digital revolution" are the worst people in the world

Those "untapped resources" were resources that had GOOD REASON to be untapped The barriers creating inefficiency are REAL barriers and cannot be defeated simply by giving everyone a phone and an app

Of course Uber was never about "carpooling" or "hitchhiking" but was always going to turn into an abusive cab service Of course AirBNB was going to go from people "opening their homes to guests" to an actual scam unlicensed hotel business for entrepreneurs

What Uber did well, that made people want to use it, was be first to the market (at least at scale) by getting people taxis without having to hail them randomly or make a phone call and wait. That's the software part, and it's been copied by many taxi companies.

Taxis dropped the ball so hard on this. You want to go somewhere? Is there a cab nearby that you can get to stop for you? Or do you need to find a phone number and call before waiting a bunch for one to come? Did they show up or do you need to call back and try again?

In a true abundance-based economy, not sharing (or only sharing with selected people) is as much of an antisocial act as stealing is in a scarcity-based economy. Any "limited sharing" necessarily ends up turning into rent-seeking *because that's what it is*.
