I DEFINITELY think there's room for nuanced discussion there and there's no time like the present to truly consider our system, burn it down and rebuild. I also think using ableist slurs, misgendering people and swearing at the minority authors this is ostensibly for doesn't help

Also it's not like self-published authors have no stake in this or are united in thinking piracy has no impact on them (there are quite a few self-pubbers who very strongly believe the opposite)

And it's really unclear why this specific conflict - maximizing access vs trying to preserve a distribution model with a strong price floor - has anything to do with "publishers vs authors"

They dislike ebooks because ebooks help drive the overall price of books towards zero, yes People "won't accept" ebook prices that are anything close to hardcover prices because the perception is the lack of a physical book should come with a deep discount

This is a deeply ingrained irrational psychological issue consumers have - "Nothing I could in theory just click on and download in two seconds if the paywall weren't there should cost more than like five bucks" And it's hugely threatening to a sustainable livelihood for authors

Yeah most industry commentators think the increase in physical book sales is because the publishers deliberately tried to kill ebooks and make them unappealing, which is why this is a fact that people are actually unhappy about
