I think that, while the negative effects are immidiate, the realization that the Internet plays a big role creeps in slower. Because it's been perceived as a positive for so long, and, in theory, even helps you (online resources for the job hunt).

Figure it takes a lot of thinking to realize this good thing you know is actually in great parts responsible for your unemployment, and not necessarily your personal failures.
