That would have been much more useful info to pair with "don't hoard masks, we don't have enough for medical personnel" instead of "uhhh masks won't contain your germs so just don't worry about it"

I think it wasn’t clear how much the regular cloth would help and there was a legit concern about hoarding (because in the US people want the maximum) and it also wasn’t clear ppl would use them correctly.

Ivfwe had competent leadership it would be different - you’d not have had the supply chain worries that are a problem even now

It's logical in hindsight, but in the early days we were having a lot of discussions about virus particle sizes and if the gaps between threads too big for it to make any difference, and nobody I talked to could find any studies on if cloth masks helped at all.
