Do better graphics imply to people that the things depicted are fuller individuals?
I mean, overall, it's a medium issue as much as anything; it's like how in all the 4X games, the warfare is interesting and the diplomacy is bland. AIs don't do well in that kind of thing, and even players have to role play a lot.
I remember reading a review of, I guess it was, MechWarrior 4 where the reviewer was disappointed that interacting with the environment was still mostly limited to weapons fire.
