police shouldn't have power to do traffic stops. having someone with a gun pull over random citizens for infractions and misdemeanors is obviously dangerous and unjust.

I've heard the argument that in countries where traffic enforcement basically doesn't exist, traffic *looks* like a terrifying chaotic mess to American eyes but the roads still function and people get where they want to go and are arguably in some ways more efficient

some european countries just use a ton of traffic cameras; enough that traffic violations are certain to be caught. people just get mailed tickets.

Active traffic enforcement is much less of a thing in much of the Middle East, is my understanding, though it could be dated

Every time a cop pulls somebody over on the interstate here, it backs up traffic for miles followed by a Mad Max free for all when they’re done. So not only does catching one speeder accomplish nothing, the cops just made driving conditions even less safe.

In places like Italy, stronger social enforcement of “pass on the left and DO NOT pass on the right” leads to FAR safer highway driving than speed limits do

It depends entirely on how severely drivers are prosecuted for causing injuries.
