fucking streaming destroying royalties, indie publishers doing 'race to the bottom' price slashes on their own work because EVERYBODY IS BROKE and the only income you can get from the majority is off people with maybe a dollar or two to spare, and everybody shits about PIRATES?

Okay you think these things are somehow entirely unrelated? The race to the bottom is clearly because of a baseline expectation that everyone is competing with a price of zero dollars Spotify *explicitly said this* when talking about why their rates are so low

SOUNDS LIKE SPOTIFY, A COMPANY WITH MONEY TO FUCKING BURN, SHOULD EAT THE COSTS OR THEY COULD JUST BE, Y'KNOW, SAYING THAT AS COVER TO DO EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO PAY NOTHING WHILE REAPING MASSIVE PROFIT BUT A COMPANY WOULD NEVER DO THAT!

Okay, so why don't the publishers - or the artists themselves, going indie - just tell Spotify to fuck off take their music off the service, and just sell it directly to the fans

many artists already have you stupid dipshit! though many can't, being locked into shitty contracts with the publishers! the publishers are fine with it, though, as they, and spotify, are the real beneficiaries here!

The publishers aren't fine with it, the publishers are weak and getting fucked over and are "dying old media dinosaurs" while Spotify and their ilk are extremely powerful

Like shit it's the publishers who are also being paid an insultingly low rate compared to what they were used to from every other licensee back in the day, it's the publishers who are in a panic over this

Jay-Z created Tidal with the support of other artists and publishers because the music industry in general is getting their blood sucked dry by tech And they're hanging in there but it's a really uphill battle for them against "mainstream" services

even with that big dip in 2009 to 2014 or so, they were still making billions... and still exploiting the artists. why are you licking so much boot and sucking so much dick for a group of companies that top down do nothing for the artists.

Well, one reason is that I don't cross picket lines and I generally expect labor unions to know more about labor conditions in their industry than I do as a consumer
