Er, what? That's only "most authors" if you don't count the ones who don't get deals, isn't it?
No one actually knows what would have happened in some universe, especially since as a story on Reddit it may have existed because of a niche that only came together because of the Internet in the first place

I guess the thing is, the traditional model seems to be "People should be able to make a living writing. But only some people. Only the *right* people. Everyone else, like this reddit person, should just go work at Arby's"

And it's not even the *maximum number* of people that should be able to make a living writing - no-one's confiscating Steven King's earnings to give more authors a 20-30k salary, after all.
