I'm not sure that I'm seeing for corporations. I'm arguing that people will pay for art they want.

Maybe. But the art people want isn’t the same as the art artists need to make in order to get to making the art people need. We have to support them through the whole process, not just per product. High prices for copies is what we’ve given them.

Again, I'd love a society that ensured everyone's needs are met so they can do whatever they want to make content. But in the current system people not getting paid until they're good enough is how every job works.

And now those that are good enough seem to be able to make a living, where people pay per month, not necessarily per item.

Do they? Because literally every artist I’ve ever seen (except A Palmer who makes her fans work for free) goes on & on about how Patreon etc are insufficient for survival.

Sci Show is able to pay staff. Contrapoints recently hired someone to help out. I could keep on listing people but I don't know how many you'd need to be satisfied.

Sci Show is Hank Green (et al) who has a whole other HIGHLY paid career. ContraPoints has multiple revenue streams. Neither of them are producing novels. But rather art tailored for a specific revenue stream.

Yeah, and the Breadtube set of people are very much riding this specific cultural wave and got really lucky, however talented they may be (I happen to think Contra is one of the very talented ones, but even so)

She's even been pretty open on her videos about having mixed feelings about being locked into this niche of being a political commentator and specifically a "trans spokeswoman", which she doesn't have any choice about at this point

Like there was a big audience brewing for someone to, specifically, do that, and she took that slot And -- the part that people are legitimately unhappy about -- because she took that slot, now no one else can really be that

The next "tier" of "trans influencers" under her are having a *much* harder time than her (and it's not like she's living an A-list celebrity life)
