And when you attack the underpinnings of these systems as being "irrational" ("Why should I have to tip based on a % of the bill?") you have a point but you aren't seeing the big picture of why that system exists and how if you remove it you gotta replace it

People who have moderately large followings who cut an album tend to delay releasing on streaming as long as they possibly can and they get yelled at for their fanbases over it and the response is always "Look I just want to make *some money* selling the album *if I can*"

Taylor Swift had a whole big thing about this, she revealed that the reason she didn't put her music on Spotify for so long is that she's fucking Taylor Swift and their percentage meant she'd make less in a year for her whole catalogue than if she spent it working at Arby's

Sure, but I can also go and buy the track directly from the artist to support them. Do I need to go and photograph the actual CDs I have from these artists to prove that the model works? I don't know what you're trying to argue, here. You claim that no other model works.

And yet musicians are making it work through a different model. And YouTube essayists through another model. Both provably work. So why are you so insistent they don't?
