People know you can sell that phone, you can't sell that digital book copy. This just re-enforces the capitalistic concept of 'value'. A lot of the conversations we have over digital goods is really a conversation about safety nets, ownership, and money representing both.

This doesn’t do justice to Amazon’s aggression. They often sold the kindles at a loss AND demanded the ebooks be cheap, because they wanted to make themselves be everywhere. If a network effect would emerge, they wanted it to be an amazon network. Fuck profits the next quarter
