Actually it's worse because at this point in our society we do have some degree of "shame culture" around tipping - if you always tip zero and people find out about it you'll be a pariah, etc - and this is very, very far from normalized for creative "tipjars"
Every book should have a QR code for easy tipping of the creators, regardless of where it was sourced.
Surely the argument that authors should rely on the number of books sold/read at a library is the position more like "writing for tips"? If wait staff should get paid a good salary regardless and authors should get paid for writing, regardless?
