The issue with Controlled Digital Lending is that even if they promise they write code that strictly limits the number of borrowed copies to equal physical copies (and thus mimic a physical library) they have the power to remove that limit with a keystroke

Doesn't matter. then they will become equal targets. all this will do is generate ACTUAL piracy. the more you strip away free or easy access the easier you make it for people to just say "screw it". then they get files WITHOUT limits, timers, DRM, etc.

The ones you’re talking about are also the exact same people who would never have bought the original work to begin with, so it’s not like the publishers are losing them as customers. “Information should be free!”= “Creators shouldn’t be paid!”

This is a non-exhaustive list of the organizations expressing their opposition to CDL in 2019. It's not just writers - it's also photographers, graphic artists, translators etc. and their advocates. Chuck Wendig is kinda background noise in this debate.pic.twitter.com/4HxmaJFBkk
