Lol British folklore doesn't say goblins run a centralized banking institution, come the fuck on, that's her thing she made up

The nearest antecedent to this is the quasi-slur "The Gnomes of Zurich" to refer to Swiss bankers, which is probably her inspiration And, sure, Swiss bankers aren't Jewish

But the kind of nasty talk about "bankers" as a class of people as inhuman is really, really obviously, for anyone who knows anything about cultural history, antisemitism-adjacent

If nothing else, claiming that Gringotts is totally innocent makes JKR a huge fucking hypocrite Because she was all-in on the "Corbyn's Labour Party is antisemitic" narrative, which *completely 100% depends* on the idea of a "bankers = Jews" dogwhistle

It reads to me as a kind of antisemitism without Jews: the tropes are there, but removed enough so that there's no conscious identification with actual Jews. But it persists and it's there if you want to run with it.

idk, much like with the goblins in Warcraft, I think the antisemitism is hard not to see

I mean, that's the thing - it's there because it's entirely an antisemitic mythology, just without the initial referent. If you're familiar with antisemitism, it's urgent and immediate, if you don't care about that, you won't notice because nobody says Jews.

I want to stress that this is NOT an excuse, it's just willful ignorance.

So there are no examples of mythical goblins/goblin like creatures in any societies or cultures until they come into contact with Jewish people?

No, but portraying bankers as some kind of evil inhuman monster is something that really ramped up once Jews got associated with banking
