JK Rowling, then, behaves invidiously by posturing as somebody genuinely literate and committed to the quality of their work when on closer inspection all her prose reads like homework hammered out hours before a due date She does pretty much everything by the seat of her pants

"Cho Chang" as a name serves as a blatant example of this It's been pointed out as not merely a culturally inauthentic name but as seemingly an offensive supposition of what such names sound like She retconned "Philosopher's Stone", but declined to address this criticism at all

This behavior simply isn't consistent with the mentality of somebody completely dedicated to self-education or the quality of their art It's behavior consistent with somebody who half-asses things, who looks at something and goes "good enough", and takes any criticism personally

It bears pointing out that the shitstorm (so to speak) over her saying wizards poop on the floor almost certainly wasn't due to some perverse master plan of hers In hindsight it wasn't intentional at all, she just fucked up

For the purpose of a Pottermore article about the Chamber of Secrets she acknowledged that indoor plumbing wasn't invented until the 1700s and then in a throwaway line just says "Oh wizards used to poop on the floor and then vanish it" to explain what they did beforehand

this feels like it's out of something where it starts as a bathroom-humor parody and then descends into an absolute nightmare of all-powerful wizards just doing whatever they want with impunity, as if muggles were less than animals to them

One of the somewhat more clever Pottermore things was the "Accionites", wizards who just decided that rather than working for a living in any sense they were just gonna use the Accio spell to summon everything they wanted from Muggles, who were helpless to stop them

That joke in Rick and Morty where Rick invents a "universal electromagnet" that rather than just attracting metal can attract anything you program it to

Morty impulsively types something on the keyboard and we wait a beat and then suddenly from over the horizon all these screaming red-haired women come hurtling toward their house
