On one hand, it's plausible that Rowling accidentally chose a pen name from an early proponent of conversion therapy. On the other, she is literally known as an author for her extensive work into symbolic character names and their associations

She did for the ones she felt were important. A writer's pseudonym gets even more deep research than any character. If nothing else to make sure it's unique enough (or anonymous enough if that's the goal).

Of all the Shakespeare ladies to name her female lead after, she went with sad dead innocent Hermione. None of the many other archaic names belonging to much more interesting characters that have withstood the test of time, like Emilia. I think that speaks VOLUMES.

What? You mean the WEREWOLF named REMUS LUPIN isn't ingeniously clever? Not that I'm any better... I made the Headless Hessian's family name Von Soldat... Because I'm basic.
