People used to talk about how great it was that Harry Potter was a geek brand as big as Star Wars or Marvel Comics or whatever but it was still "creator owned", that JKR never relinquished her veto power over the franchise, everything in it is still fundamentally hers

The problem with corporations is that there tend to be inner cultures of around that same level of vitriol that only receive any consequences when either somebody slips up and says something bad publicly or if the victims of said culture can somehow bring attention to it

On some level, yes. But how quickly would, say, Kathleen Johnson be fired if she tweeted these things? We can't "fire" Rowling.

It’s notable that for all the discussions about whether works associated with MeTooed artists should be canceled, nobody ever declared Toy Story “canceled”. Nobody would want to, and Pixar’s super collaborative nature maybe overshadows Lotso directing.
