I hated Harry Potter even back in 2009 Used to practice my Mandarin in class by going on rants about how shitty and privileged Harry Potter was and how the wizarding world was effectively brutally oppressive to the muggle world, how it created this fucked ingrained caste system

I told my wingman back then that if JKR didn't have the writing skills of an AIMbot that she would have paced the books so that Voldemort died by book six (because his shtick was tired by then) but died in such a spectacle that it wound up ripping the statute of secrecy apart

This is kind of my constant intrusive thought with any contemporary fantasy setting. Like, what, a 30? 40%? of global GDP was spent on WW2 you're saying no one thought about trying to weaponize ghosts?

Apparently the story of how wizards interacted with WWII is what the rest of the Fantastic Beasts series is about Sigh

The series handled this fine-ish when it was just “dumbledore had a duel with a mysterious evil wizard in 1945” which implied a magical analog to WW2. at all developing that backstory was a mistake
