i definitely do not think this, but i still think there are very few movies that are better than books, even when the books are very bad. HP may be an exception but i can't imagine watching four million hours of HP movies to find out.

Mostly Hollywood wrecks its source material EVEN IF its source material is appallingly bad to begin with. Which, of course, is the case with MANY bestselling books.

Nah tons of movie adaptations are better than the books, especially the wacky surprise successes like, say, Twilight and 50 Shades of Gray

I mean, we continue to disagree on this because i absolutely hate Hollywood and i think they ruin everything.

Arthur talks about "regression to the mean" but like, i don't think Hollywood's mean is a good one. What Hollywood does is a) film crap books, making them no less crap but giving them a wider audience; and b) film great books, inevitably ruining them in the process.

I mean if you're inherently anti-Hollywood there's not going to be an argument about any of the decisions they made but I just can't get that bibliophilic about it American Psycho is an amazing movie in part because the lady in charge of it didn't emulate Bret Easton Ellis

Yeah, i'm inherently anti-movie, pretty much. And ESPECIALLY anti-Hollywood.

Movies are inherently better than books It takes many more people to make a movie than a book, which means that movies are overall job creators and stimulate the economy, whereas generally speaking books are not

Well, yes, if "stimulates the economy" is your main criterion for art, that's … certainly SOMETHING.

Hey it's an easy concern to dismiss if it's not your job If everyone stopped watching TV and movies and just read books LA would enter a devastating recession
