Lest you accuse me of sexism for praising two old canonical white guys over JKR, Le Guin's Earthsea really is just as if not more high-effort than LotR, is arguably the actual franchise that made "wizard school" into a trope, and deserves to have all of Harry Potter's money

Personally I tend to default to Earthsea for my wizard schools. If you have your hero shapeshift into a dragon to fight off a bunch of other dragons, I'm gonna be a fan.

I think in terms of cultural impact to a generation, maybe they were close but like... We don't need them anymore. We've had better stories. We deserve better people inspiring the next generation than a grifter
