I think one thing that has changed about me a lot in the past few years is I now completely believe in the jokey aphorism "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you"

"Try to reframe your understanding of this incident to take into account the idea that people are generally well meaning and don't act out of malice" HOW THE FUCK WOULD YOU KNOW THAT

I've noticed that CBT sometimes seems to cause feedback loops in friends. It's... not a great system.
-
It works as well as any other system of lying to yourself to make yourself feel better does

Yeah I think the problem with a lot of therapy is that it's very much based around upper middle class white people who don't have serious external issues.
-
Mental health care not being covered by insurance (at least in the States) doesn’t help this either.

That’s missing the parts of CBT where you weigh evidence, though. If you think your in-laws hate you and your evidence is that they tell you they hate you, you don’t need to try to change that thought.
-
The problem is that sometimes you say "I have evidence large groups of complete strangers are conspiring to cause me emotional distress in subtle, deniable ways for no reason other than that it gives them pleasure" and then they look at you like you're crazy
