I wonder if the framers of the Constitution, when drafting the second amendment, thought for a minute that the armed populace could be on different sides.

Given that there were royalists in America and the bill of rights was ratified about the time the Whiskey Rebellion happened, surely it was at least for a consideration.

The 2nd amendment, like most everything else in the Bill of Rights, was a matter of fierce debate and eventual compromise between federalist and antifederalist factions
